Intro to Scent/Nose Work Level 1

Introduction to the basic principles and skills of scent detection sports

Started Jul 14
225 US dollars
516 Main Training Room

Service Description

In this class we will focus on creating an independent, confident dog and hone handler observation skills. Teams will be working "primary" (typically food) rewards only as teams develop the skills needed to excel in this sport. This sport provides enrichment and mental stimulation for dogs, while strengthening the bond between dog and handler. Dogs work one at a time. No other dogs will be present in the search area as each team works, so this sport is accessible to dog-reactive dogs. If your dog is person-reactive, please contact me for evaluation before enrolling. Dogs must be able to crate indoors, covered, or in their car, if weather permits. The crate room is air conditioned. WARNING: Scent Detection is addictive! Expect to have fun! Level 1 is the first of 3 classes structured to create strong, resilient teams, ready to enjoy Scent Detection sports in a variety of trialing organizations or at home for enrichment, mental stimulation, and joy. Level 1 Introduction -- primary only: July 14-August 25 (no class July 28) Level 2 Building skills -- primary with intro to odor if class is ready: Dates tbd Level 3 Continuing skill building -- 4 odors and some novel environments: Dates tbd
